●The number of elderly living alone continues to increase. Bereavement ・ Living alone due to bereavement and loneliness. Mental ・ anxiety and financial insecurity add to it as they age. The savior for such elderly people will be their pets.
●They make people forget their loneliness, give them something to live for, and give them pleasure in raising them. They help stabilize emotions, help stabilize blood pressure, and reduce the incidence of dementia.
●But it's not always a good thing. There are the daily costs of shots ・ birth control ・ registration, food ・ dog walking, pet injuries ・ treatment for illnesses, problems caused by neglect, and worst of all, the emotional impact of a pet's death. On the other hand, if the owner does not have a plan in place in case of death, problems can arise.
In addition, there are many other rules and regulations regarding pet ownership in the State of California.
① Pets must come from an animal shelter, not through a pet store
② Dogs must be inoculated against rabies
③ All dogs must be registered
④ Animal shelters are not allowed to take cats before giving them to new owners.
⑤ cats must be sterilized and given a certificate of sterilization before being given to a new owner
⑥ if you have that certificate, your cat's registration fee will be cut in half ( you cannot destroy the pet without permission )
⑦ Fighting pets is punishable by animal cruelty
⑧ Pets are treated like property or children in divorce proceedings
⑨ As for cats, California does not have a specific limit on the number of cats kept, but the County and ( City of Los Angeles: 3 dogs )
⑩ Dogs are required to be leashed on a leash, and the length of the leash must be less than 6 feet.
● We recommend that pet owners understand these responsibilities.
● Moving into a pet-free home. Although there are rental houses that state that pets are not allowed, the landlord cannot refuse to allow pets to move in if you have the official Emotional Support Animal (ESA) paperwork. In the workplace, if you have ESA documentation, the company will have no choice but to allow employees to work without pets. However, since an ESA is different from a Service Animal Facility, there are restrictions on where pets can enter and exit the facility.
● 67% of all households in the US have at least one pet. ( 2020 Statistics ) Dogs tend to be the most common pet, followed by cats. Dogs are more common in warmer regions and cats are more common in colder regions, and the cost of pets is higher for dogs.
In California, 22 . 9% of all households have cats, while nearly 40% have dogs.
●According to the age group of pet owners, so-called baby boomers aged 55 - 74 have the second highest pet ownership rate at 54%, behind the 40 - 54-year-old group.
● In this issue, we would like to share our experiences with the elderly and their pets.
