Master potter of Karatsu ware, ・ Mr. Tanaka continues to fire his kiln even now at the age of 87. He will be present throughout the exhibition, so please come and meet him ！ We will also offer tea and steamed buns or amber sugar as tea cakes for those who visit the gallery.

Japan Gallery is pleased to present "From Jomon to the Future," an exhibition by master Karatsu potter ・ Tanaka Sajiro, who, at the age of 87, continues to fire his kiln at the Yamase Kiln located 700 meters above sea level in the mountains. For him, firing a kiln at 1,300 degrees Celsius is not just a part of production, but a sacred ritual of confronting nature and a struggle against himself. The coincidence and reverence for nature created in the flames imbue his works with a deep beauty that overwhelms the viewer.

Tanaka devotes his life to ceramics to the extent that he calls himself a "ceramic fanatic. His works reflect his simple yet powerful days and express his way of life itself.

This exhibition brings together his latest works, including tea sets, flower vases, and treasure towers. This is a rare opportunity to experience the "now" of Tanaka, who continues to pursue new expressions while inheriting the tradition of Karatsu-yaki.

Mr. Tanaka will be present throughout the exhibition, so this is a good chance to ask him questions about his works. Also, please stop by the Japan Gallery for a cup of tea and a steamed bun or an amber sugar tea set for those who visit the gallery.
