The "Hyottoko Odori" dance, which invites laughter with its humorous dancing with funny masks, is said to have been taught to the villagers by Dr. Kimiyuki Tachibana, who practiced in the Shiomi Nagata area around the beginning of the Meiji period and whose dance was based on Kagura (Shinto music and dance).
