A cartoonist ・ from Nagasaki City, Kon Shimizu was active before and after World War II.
He belonged to the New Cartoonist Group （ and later to the Cartoon Group ） and engaged in a wide range of activities, including political cartoons, portraits, children's cartoons, interview cartoons, portraits, bookbinding, and stage design. In particular, his kappa manga, which became so famous that it was dubbed "Kon Kappa," is said to have rewritten the image of kappa, which had been strongly associated with yokai (monsters).
